\nPROGRAM (OBCOAP)<\/span><\/h2>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1564095585061{margin-top: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]OB COAP is a collaborative quality improvement program helping obstetrical care providers deliver optimum care to the childbearing people and the babies they take care of.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Following a long-standing successful model of clinician-led, data-driven\u00a0quality improvement established under the Foundation for Health Care Quality, OB COAP utilizes clinical data from the medical record to evaluate the care given to pregnant persons during labor, delivery and the postpartum period as the basis for exploring actionable and sustainable\u00a0improvements.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

OB COAP\u00a0is open to any site\u00a0delivering babies. Current\u00a0participants include hospitals\u00a0of all sizes and neonatal\/maternal level of care\u00a0in urban, suburban and rural locations,\u00a0as well as community births\u00a0planned in home or\u00a0birth centers. The data collected allows for\u00a0analysis\u00a0of\u00a0provider-specific decisions during labor,\u00a0delivery and\u00a0postpartum;\u00a0the impact of\u00a0factors such as patient risk,\u00a0gynecological history, clinician type and environment on outcomes; and balancing measures that evaluate both the intended and unintended effects of changes in practice.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of your quality improvement efforts, important process metrics to monitor include:<\/span>

\n Recommending low-dose aspirin in prenatal people at moderate to high risk for developing preterm preeclampsia<\/a>\n <\/div>
\n
\n Using antenatal corticosteroids at the optimal time to improve outcomes for preterm infants<\/a>\n <\/div>
\n
\n Checking cord gases on newborns with certain indications<\/a>\n <\/div>\n

Each of these linked 2-page documents provide a brief summary of the current guidelines. OB COAP participants are easily able to follow performance on these metrics at the system, site, practitioner, and practitioner-type level. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
