ABS Ongoing Certification: Practice Improvement<\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Did you know that participating in SCOAP helps you fulfill your ABS Ongoing Certification requirement for Practice Improvement?\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

All surgeons who wish to maintain their board certification status must comply with American Board of Surgery (ABS) requirements. Starting in 2007, the ABS began requiring surgeon involvement in a\u00a0quality improvement initiative. SCOAP can provide verification of enrollment or surgeon participation with the following stipulations:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Hospital with which surgeon is affiliated must be a SCOAP participating hospital with current, audited data.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Hospital with which surgeon is affiliated must use the surgeon identifier window on SCOAP data submission form<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Surgeon must register for Practice Improvement verification with the Foundation for Health Care Quality (FHCQ) and provide proof of participation in SCOAP activities. This includes:<\/span>\n
      \n
    • attendance at the annual SCOAP Retreat\u00a0or<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n
    • participation in at least one regional or local SCOAP meeting;\u00a0and<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n
    • participation in at least two hospital meetings where SCOAP data is reviewed<\/span><\/li>\n
    • participation in a local quality improvement effort related to an opportunity for improvement identified by review of the SCOAP data<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Surgeons who register for this verification and have met these requirements will receive an annual SCOAP certificate that they can submit to the ABS as proof of involvement in the program.
