Implementation Support

Checklists: The checklist translates the Bree guidelines into action steps for that sector (i.e., clinician, health delivery site, public health, etc.). The action items have been arranged into levels 1, 2, and 3 to correspond to the difficulty level of implementing the action into the sectors’ setting. Bree staff co-created the checklists with report workgroup members and topic experts.

Overview

The past several decades have seen a significant shift in healthcare delivery from inpatient to outpatient settings, yet outpatient settings often lack the infrastructure or resources to support infection prevention and surveillance activities. The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the importance of infection control measures, as the first confirmed case in the United States was in Washington, and as of December 2021 over 800,000 Washingtonians have been infected. At the same time, strong infection control policies and procedures like physical distancing and masking have disrupted the circulation of other respiratory viruses and infectious diseases. This workgroup will review existing, often inpatient, infection control guidelines and translate them to outpatient settings.
